Pretty Boy KO's Hatton

Floyd Mayweather Jr. knocked Ricky Hatton the fuck out in the 10th round Saturday night in Vegas. You would have thought it was in England because of all the fans who attended the fight on Hattons behalf. It sounded like a fucking soccer match with all the chants and songs going on during the fight.

Hatton came out early as the aggressor, putting constant pressure on Mayweather. It was effective at 1st making May uncomfortable. Mayweather was limited to one punch at a time followed by a hold/grab for the 1st 3-4 rounds.

All the clean shots were landed by Mayweather and he even cut Hatton above the left eye in the 3rd with no further damage. A point was taken away from Hatton by referee Jose Cortez for hitting Mayweather in the back of the head. It was a bullshit call and it seemed as if Cortez was blind to the holding Mayweather was doing and kept warning Hatton.

Either way in the end rounds Hatton looked a little winded and became less and less aggressive and Mayweather took advantage by landing more combinations. Then in the 10th Hatton was caught with a left hook to the jaw that knocked him silly. After an eight count, Hatton got up only to be knocked back down seconds later with Cortez stopping the fight as well as Hatton's corner throwing in the towel. Mayweather is now 39-0 (29 KOs). Hatton suffered his 1st loss and fell to 43-1 (31 KOs).

Boxing sucks now, but this was a decent fight. Way better than the Mayweather/De La Hoya fight, I can tell you that much.

Tim Tebow WIns Heisman

Tim Tebow won the Heisman Trophy Saturday night in New York, becoming the 1st sophomore in it's history to win the award. With the numbers Tebow put up (Over 3,000 yards passing, 29 tds 6 ints, 22 rush tds) it was kind of a no-brainer. Darren McFadden finished a second.

What this says as what Tebow's potential could be is nothing. Heisman trophy winners are great college players. How their game translates to the NFL is 50/50. TT is a pretty strong dude, but with all that punishment he takes, I would have to think that he will have to adjust his style of play eventually.

Speaking of Heisman winners who's game doesn't pan out in the NFL, it was great to see the guys who have won the past few years who I forgot even existed. I would like to give these guys below the "HEY I REMEMBER YOU" award!!

BCS BS

Well the time has finally come to decide who the top 2 teams in college football are.
The voters have spoken and #1 Ohio St. will play #2 LSU in the 2008 BCS Championship game.

Tons of speculation has come to rest as #4 Georgia dropped to #5 and #7 LSU moved up to #2. Weird I know. I am not saying that the best 2 teams are not playing in the final game, cause I really do think these are the best 2 teams, it's just a really flawed system. Every single year a new problem arises with this stupid BCS shit and changes need to be made.

Now, I am far two stoopid to come up with the solution. But I do have a few suggestions that could make things better.

  1. Get rid of preseason rankings. This could have possibly helped undefeated Hawaii.
  2. Make winning your conference mandatory to be eligible to play in the BCS Championship.
  3. Quit being bitches and just go to a playoff!!

Now I know about the money this and money that....but if anyone thinks the same amount of money, if not more, cannot be generated by switching to a playoff system is just crazy. I mean these teams and these fans deserve a clear Champion every year. Instead we are left with controversy...EVERY SINGLE YEAR. That is not what makes it exciting and I hate the people who say so.

Anyway, here is the rest of the BCS bowl games. Some really good match ups in there.

Kansas (11-1) vs Va Tech (11-2) in Miami on Jan. 3

Oklahoma (11-2) vs West Virginia (10-2) in Arizona on Jan. 2

Illinois (9-3) vs USC (10-2) in Cali on Jan. 1

Hawaii (12-0) vs Georgia (10-2) in New Orleans on Jan. 3

FUCK ESPN

I am officially done with the National Enquirer a.k.a ESPN. These motherfuckers do not know their ass from a hole in the ground. It's real easy to report every scenario of a story, then claim that they were on top of it when a definite answer comes out.

Case in point. Around 11:00 this morning Kirk Herbstreet reported that his "source" confirmed that LSU coach Les Miles was going to Michigan. Maybe an hour later, Espn reported that Les Miles is staying at LSU. Thank You WORLDWIDE LEADER IN SPORTS. What would I do without you?

This happens way to often for ESPN to keep their credibility. Take the early weeks of the NFL season. Chris Mortensen reported that Eli Manning was to miss at least 4 weeks due to a shoulder injury due to a hit he suffered during the end of a game. Thirty fucking minuted later Eli was interviewed saying it was nothing serious and he would play next week. THEN, Mortensen had the balls to go back on t.v. to say he stands behind his report. That his source was correct. Eli has not missed a game yet. Thank you WORLDWIDE LEADER IN SPORTS!!

Back to this Les Miles story. Let me tell you why this played out like it did and how it is going to end. Lsu granted Michigan permission to talk to Miles under only one condition, wait until AFTER the SEC Championship game. Completely understandable. However, Miles' agent can talk to Michigan and basically both sides can come to an agreement on the DL. A basic understanding if you will. Well good ol' ESPN had to interfere and reported this. Now Les Miles then had to go on t.v. and give a news conference (for the second time) that he is an LSU man and he is here to stay. Well NO SHIT!! What was he supposed to say? The deal was supposed to wait you stupid fucks. He has a CHAMPIONSHIP GAME TO PLAY YET ASSHOLES!!

Now what is going to happen is in about 2 weeks, Les Miles is going to accept the job at Michigan. Then ESPN is going to play it out as he is a Nick Saban or a Larry Brown type of coach. Say one thing to make people happy....then do what you want anyway. When this whole time Miles was taking the Michigan job.

It is possible for a coach to handle his business with his current team while letting his alma mater know he will coach there next year. It is not a distraction until ESPN gets involved. THANK YOU WORLDWIDE LEADER IN SPORTS.

I THINK RON BURGUNDY WAS ON TO SOMETHING

4 Arrested in Taylor Killing

Four young men/kids were arrested Friday in connection with the murder of Sean Taylor. Apparently their intent was to rob the place and they did not intend for Taylor to be at home. I find that to be BULLSHIT.

Maybe they said that because oh I don't know, could it be that a little charge called 1st degree pre-meditated murder would have been brought upon them? Rather than maybe a 2nd degree and a burglary charge.

Police say they do believe they have the shooter in custody. That gives me a great idea. IT'S TIME TO PLAY-----LET'S PICK THE KILLER!!!!

Out of the four above, which one do you think pulled the trigger that killed Sean Taylor. Some might think it is a no-brainier by looking at these pics. But let me remind you that all 4 of these kids have had trouble with the law and remember never to judge a book by its cover. Check the comments to see my pic. Leave your answer in the comments.

Bob Marley Out for Season

After playing in his 1st game in nearly 2 years, Bob Marley......sorry....Ricky Williams is out for the season after suffering a torn chest muscle in Monday Night's slop bowl. During a play, after Bob fumbled the ball, he was stepped on while facing chest down on the ground. I don't have the video but it looked like an intentional stomp to me. But now he can take all the pain killers he wants....so that should help him with any weed withdraws. Hope to see ya next year BOB..err.ah..Ricky.

Sean Taylor Passes Away

Tragic news...just plain tragic. The A.P. announced Sean Taylor passed away today, one day after being shot in the leg. What a shitty thing to happen. Complete shocker. He was only 24 years old. Feel free to leave comments. I can't believe it. R.I.P.

Sean Taylor Shot In Leg; In Critical Condition

Early Monday morning Redskins safety Sean Taylor was shot in the leg during a home invasion according to Espn. Apparently, Taylor and his girlfriend were waken by loud noises. Taylor then grabbed a machete near his bedside, when the intruder came through the bedroom door and fired 2 shots. One shot hitting Taylor in the leg, hitting a major artery and causing major blood loss.

Police are investigating whether this was a robbery. The shooting came eight days after an intruder was seen at Taylor's home.

Taylor had surgery to repair femoral artery.

After surgery, Taylor was responsive to doctors, which came as very good news.

This story is just plain CRAZY and SAD at the same time. Taylor's daughter was in the home at the time of the shooting. Things turned out quite bad, but could have been much worse. Hopefully Taylor can make a full recovery.

I do have a few thoughts on the matter. Without bashing Taylor's name, he was not known as an alter boy during his college and NFL career. He had run-ins with the law at times and was known as (according to Clinton Portis) "The craziest Hurricane in the programs history". Which has a list of the most troublesome players of all time.

My point is, this happened at Taylor's Miami home. Which has been his breeding ground for years. Is this simply Karma catching up with him? Without knowing hardly any facts to the story, I am going to go out on a limb and say this was more personal than a random burglary.

If eight days ago and intruder was spotted at him home, then he is shot. My opinion is someone had in in for him more than just because of his wealth and fame. It is just a bizzare story.

Hope all goes well for Taylor and his family. I don't know what the odds are but I enjoyed watching Taylor on the field and hope one day he can return.

X GAMES ARE SWEET

Last night on ESPN, X-Games 13 kicked off it's event by having the sickest bail out on a skating ramp I have ever seen in a competition. Now I am by no means a hardcore fan of this shit. But I know whats going on and do have a slight interest. What Jake Brown did last night would blow the minds of anybody. Fan or not. I happen to be watching this live and.... well words do not describe it. WATCH!!

Culpepper Signs His Life Away

Because talks are slowing down between Oakland and JaMarcus Russell, the Raiders went ahead and signed Daunte Culpepper to a one year deal on Tuesday. Word is he will have every chance to earn the starting job. Him signing is actually a good thing for the rookie Russell. He now has that veteran QB that rooks need to show him the ropes. It would have been scary for Russell to start with Josh McCown and Andrew Walter teaching him the game.

However, if Daunte Culpepper starts the season, or plays at all for that matter, he is going to be absolutely murdered out there on the football field. His mobility has been shot since he blew out his knee in '05. He was sacked 21 times in 4 games last year when Miami brought him back to early. He says he is back to full form after the past 2 seasons.

All I have to say is we will see how back to form you are when your immobile ass is getting sacked left and right playing behind that shitty offensive line. That knee will not be able to keep him moving the way he is going to have to move. Especially when those shady receivers cannot get open it time for him not to get killed. It is going to be ugly. I mean I can't blame Culpepper for signing with them. He wanted a contract and no one was biting. But Oakland is the worst place for him to be. Mark my words, If Culpepper plays in at least 4 games....he will have a season ending injury. Possibly a career. He was, after all, on the cover of Madden before.

Boston Celtics Think They Are Cool Again

An interesting trade was made in the NBA yesterday. Kevin Garnett was sent to the Celtics to Minnesota for a record amount of players traded for one guy. Gerald Green, Al Jefferson, Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff, Ryan Gomes, two 1st round draft picks and cash. That's a lot of shit for one guy. But both sides needed to make this deal.

Here are the Pros and Cons for Boston.
Pros- Well they finally are relevant again. With the 3 headed monster they now have in the weak east, they believe they have a strong shot at the Finals. Think about it. Garnett demands a double team every time he touches the rock, he just does. Only two big men in the east can guard him one on one. Rasheed Wallace and Ben Wallace. Maybe Dwight Howard. That said, for the first time Garnett will have legit scorers to kick the ball out to. Both Pierce and Allen can are deadly shooters and slashers. These guys will be even more lethal with a big man of Garnett's skills. When they get hot, it will be a scary sight for opponents.

Cons- They got rid of some really good young talent. Al Jefferson is really starting to come into his own. By making these moves to a more veteran team, it really only gives them a 3 year run. It is really hard to make it all happen in this first year. These guys are all going to have to learn to play the game with each other. Each of them has had to be the "MAN" for their teams their entire careers. Also, the bench is NOT going to be deep. Doc Rivers made it clear that the work isn't done to make the team complete. However, what can they possible do to become a deep team? I have a feeling Garnett, Pierce and Allen are going to be exausted by years end. The pressure and expectations to win might be too much for them in the first year.

PREDICTION-Garnett will suffer another 1st round elimination.

As for Minnesota...See Boston's 06-07 season record for prediction.

OJ Simpson Interview

Bill Walsh Passes

Former San Fran 49er coach Bill Walsh passed away Monday morning from a long battle of leukemia. He was 75 years old. Walsh had 3 Super Bowl victories leading the great 49ers of the 80's. He was best known for being the creator of the "West Coast Offense." A efficient passing game with the idea of using that to set up the run. Very effective system if you have the talent to run it.

I have never been a huge fan of the offense. Mainly because Steve Mariucci came to Detroit and slaughtered the WCO theory with a team of misfits. I am also a firm believer that an effective run game to start, opens up the pass, rather than vice versa.

Either way, former players and just about every coach had nothing but praise for Walsh. A good man, great mind. Definitely a sad day in the football world.

This got me thinking. A lot of great minds came through sports during the 80's to revolutionize the way the games are played today. I am talking in all sports. Its up to the guys who are coaching now, who learned from these greats, to keep their ideas fresh with the old school mentality. This is the way great coaches are made. Smarts and balls. Two qualities Bill Walsh possessed.

Eddie Curry Gets Antoine Walker Treatment

Two very bizarre, very similar situations happened within two weeks of each other. Not long after Antoine Walker was tied up and robbed in his Chicago home, Eddie Curry had the same thing happened to him and his family, in Chicago, early Saturday morning. Neither player or family members was injured. Devastated though I am sure.

Chicago thugs must not be playin', cause these are serious crimes that take big balls to pull off.

I mean here is the checklist of things you'd have to consider before pulling this off.

  1. Your going into a fancy neighborhood, probably not dressed like a priest.

  2. Rich people always take security precautions, there are bound to be cameras.

  3. Nba players are almost ALWAYS with a posse. How many "Homeboys" are going to be in the house with him?

  4. Nba players are not small dudes. If you slip up, they could easily strong arm you.

  5. Usually these are gated communities. Are you going to be able to have a fast getaway?

If you really thing about it though, in this type of robbery, the risk/reward factor is better than say....if you was to rob a bank. I am not sure was the percentage is on bank robbers getting caught, but I am guessing it is high.

You have to suspect the Walker and Curry incidents are somehow connected. Same city, same target, same methods. Time for these players to set up their homes like movie and rock stars. You don't see this shit happening to Ozzy Ozborne or George Clooney. That's cause you have to have an Army to get past those security systems. Did anyone see MTV cribs and Big Boi's security? He took his precautions and even told the camera, "Don't even try it."

I'm just saying, I know these athletes think the are invincible. They are finding out that in the blink of an eye that they can be helpless. This is definitely a wake up call.

VICK PLEADS NOT GUILTY

Not the biggest shocker ever but it became official today. As Vick's teammates reported to training camp, Vick reported to court to plea "Not Guilty" on charges of dog fighting. I am not going to elaborate because we have a long road ahead of us before this thing plays out. But I am going to comment on these "Thug" athletes that find themselves in trouble. They keep it real, dress like rappers in a video, and stay gangsta. Then when court time comes, the dreads come off, no jewelry and all the sudden they are respectable human beings. The ultimate slap in their face. If words like "judge and jury" don't scare them straight when they reach their middle and late 20's, nothing ever will. This is like a perfect episode of Dave Chappelle's "When Keeping it Real Goes Wrong."

What The Hell Is Going On?

Just a few days ago I wrote on here that things were slow and boring in the sports world. The very next day the world we love got rocked by a tornado, hurricane and volcanic eruptions all at once. Sports nation is in a Official State of National Emergency. This time of summer is when the sports world is at it's quietest. It is time for us fans to riot our sports world. It already has been a summer to remember.

NFL- While new commissioner Roger Goodell has had his hands full with his stricter policies, one of his Superstar Qb's (Vick) is indicted on charges involving dog fighting. With the pressure of Peta (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and just your average pet/dog lovers, Goodall is forced to tell Vick not to report to training camp until further notice.

NBA- In what is called the worst scandal of it history, the NBA found out that one of it's referee's was on the take. Fixing games for the mob to better his debt situation. This is a league where its fans already questioned it officiating because it's commissioner coddled his referees and protected them more than his own players. A league divided if you will. Unlike the NLF's problems. This one was kinda self inflicted. Stern will never take any blame and should be canned for this one. The way I see things, it can be best described from a line by my favorite movie character Sam "Ace" Rothstein (Robert DeNiro) in Casino. " Listen, if you didn't know you're bein' scammed, you're too fuckin' dumb to keep this job. If you did know, you were in on it. Either way, you're out. Get out! Go on." I mean I knew something wasn't right. Are you telling me he didn't?

Tour De France- It looks as if like baseball, in cycling if you aint using you aint trying. For years Lance Armstong has battled rumors of steroid use. It kind of seemed that it was more of the French press hating on the American for dominating its popular race. However after he retired a new American, Floyd Landis, came through to win the TDF only to be under suspision for roids and start his own scandal. Now this years TDF leader Michael Rasmussen has been pulled from the race due to doping suspicion. All these guys denied ever using. It will eventually come out that this problem runs deep for cycling. If you ask me Armstong pulled a Mark McGuire. He retired at the perfect time.

Golf- Even one of the most innocent game of professional sports was involved in controversy. Gary Player ,71, a former PGA member and 9 time major champion, had his own doping remarks on his sport. "I know for a fact that some golfers are doing it. … We're dreaming if we think it's not going to come into golf. I would say in the world tour today … there's 10 guys taking something. I might be way out. Definitely not going to be lower, but might be a hell of a lot more." All I have to say is...of course they use them.

Professional Wrestling- Former wrestler Chris Benoit kills wife, then child, then self. Steroids, hydrocodone and anti depressants were found in his body. Whats crazy to me is one of the reasons all this congressional hearing crap started for baseball was to tell the dangers of steroids to kids. When it is clearly being abused in Professional Wrestling, and being watched by more kids than any of the 4 major sports probably combined.

MLB- The sport that opened our eyes to steroids. Which by the way, the only reason is because the most sacred record in sports is about to be broken by it's biggest steroid user. Well that and Jose Canseco. It is such a coincidence that while all these stories broke in about a 15 day span, Barry Bonds is 2 homeruns away from tying and 3 away from breaking the all-time record. The funny thing is baseball has taken a backseat to all these other scandals. Maybe it is because the media is sick of talking about it. Now that there is fresh blood in the water.

HITLER SPEAKS

About 11:03 am today Davis Stern took the podium for what I call the most anticipated press conference of his career. He started by babbling about the rules referees are given. Plus all the thorough background checks every referee undergoes, financial and criminal. After that, it almost seemed as if he gave a little blame to the Nevada Gaming Board for not alerting him to any red flags during the time of these allegations. Maybe that's just me though.

As I am watching this Live, that cockiness Stern always possesses is no where to be found. I think it was a good idea to swallow his pride during this one.

Now he is making excuses of why Donaghy's former problems with neighbors and gambling went without resolution. Stern said he told Donaghy that they were "Unhappy" with his behavior and conduct. If he continued, he would no longer work for the NBA. This was 2005.

June 20th (after the finals) the NBA received a call from FBI about these fixing allegations. Stern met with them the next day.

Boy does Stern look shook up.

Stern is currently not aware of the number of games or which games were fixed.

July 9th Donaghy resigned.

Stern made it clear his understanding of this was an isolated case, however pending investigation he is not sure. He is only going by what he knows now.

He is sure leaving the possibility open that more referees could be involved.

He also says regardless of cost, every procedure will be in place to make sure this will never happen again. At 11:30 he took questions.

No one was given a heads up?
Stern-That is correct

Are you surprised this slipped through the cracks?
Stern-Yes, although no more than the FBI.

Can you take us through the range of emotions after you got the call?
Stern-This is a subject we discuss. I am aware of the threat in all sports. My reaction was I can't believe it happening to us.

Why do you suck cock?
Stern-Cause I am queer and it is yummy.

This was just the basics of the press conference. It's been going on to an hour now. There is much more of this story to go around for the rest of the summer. Later on today I will have my response of today's news.

***UPDATE***

The referee in question is 13 year vet Tim Donaghy. My apologies to Jack Nies. I am sorry your refereeing skills are so shady that I was convinced it was you.

THE FIX IS IN

Well, well, well....Looks like David Stern's henchmen aren't as squeaky clean as he thought. I have been arguing the fact that NBA referees are the most crooked thing in all of sports the past 10 years. Now it looks like I have have some proof to back that up.

Murray Weiss of the NY Post reported today that the FBI is investigating an unnamed NBA referee who supposedly bet on NBA games including games he worked. Apparently thousands of dollars were bet on games in the '05-06 and '06-'07 seasons. Anyone remember that game 3 final in '06? (note: Dirk's phantom foul on Dwade with 1 sec left) The referees for that game were Dan Crawford, Ken Mauer and Jack Nies. Pretty shady crew anyway. Now, I swear to you they have not released the referee in question. But you all can bow down to me when it is revealed Jack Nies is the one. I will apologize if I am wrong.

The FBI started investigating a group of NY mobsters a year ago when it lead them to the referee. I guess the referee had a gambling problem and fell into a deep debt. And as always, mobsters were there to clean up the mess. Stern and the referee are aware (of course, if I know they know) and the ref is planning on turning himself in next week. The NBA had this to say, "We have been asked by the FBI, with whom we are working closely, not to comment on this matter at this time."

I don't know about you, but I am so fucking giddy about this, teenage school girls at a Nick Carter concert have nothing on me. This is like the best episode of the Sopranos that never happened, only in real life.

After the Joey Crawford incident and this, I am hoping Stern will be so paranoid that every referee is suspect now. This needed to happen to fix a major problem with NBA officiating. I am curious to see if the fixed games will be released to the public. Stayed tuned, I know I will.
